Couple Can Sue Laptop-Tracking Company for Spying on Sex Chats
U.S. District Judge Walter Rice ruled last week against Absolute Software, which provides software and services for tracking stolen computers. Absolute sought a summary judgment in its favor, insisting that one of its theft recovery agents acted properly when he captured sexually explicit images of Susan Clements-Jeffrey communicating via webcam with her boyfriend and passed them to police in an effort to recover the stolen computer.

iPhones for the Army
I love to see that we are fitting our soldiers with the best tools we can to help them. They deserve it. I imagine that there will be some great secure apps that the public may never see that will help them track and identify the enemy in the field.

Seattle developer Greenfab plans Tuesday to assemble what it calls the city’s first modular home to target top-level platinum certification through the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.
The Central Area home will consist of six boxes that are 12 feet wide, 20 feet long and 16 feet high. The boxes were trucked from a factory in Idaho and are set to be lifted by crane onto the foundation of the demonstration home Tuesday. When assembled, the house will have 1,790 square feet, with three bedrooms and 2.75 bathrooms.

Many people define themselves to create an image of how they appear to others. It’s vanity, if you will. Besides this being a total waste of time, energy, and money, it often does not create the impression they desire. Phones have become statements about who we are much like cars did 20 or 30 years ago. A guy with a Corvette was perceived much differently than a guy with a VW Beatle. This chart may exaggerate a little, the it hits the general stereotype right on. See how you stack up.

Verizon is Jumping into Seattle’s 4G Swimming Pool
Verizon’s entry into the Seattle 4G network by year’s end may just be the “tipping point” for me to get a new 4G iPhone next year. With download speeds more than 5 times faster as the 3G network, it’s going to be a significant speed bump!

The majority of today’s smartphones such as the iPhone or Droid X support 3G service, providing roughly 1.5 to 2.5 megabits of data per second: sufficient for most Internet-related services.
By contrast, 4G cell phone services generally deliver more than 10 megabits per second (mbs) at their upper range. Between 3.5 and 4.5 mbs is generally considered the threshold for streaming live HD movies for smooth, uninterrupted viewing; therefore, the data stream on your cell phone could match or in some cases exceed your home broadband service.
Verizon announced Oct. 6 that its 4G LTE service will be available in Seattle by year’s end, offering speeds from 5 to 12 mbs. Anticipated coverage will be roughly from Lynnwood on the north to Fife in the south; the Seattle waterfront on the west and Redmond and Issaquah to the east. Coverage will also be available in Auburn, Bellevue, Bothell, Burien, Covington, Des Moines, Edmonds, Federal Way, Kenmore, Kent, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Mill Creek, Renton, Sammamish, Sea-Tac, South Everett, Tukwila, and Woodinville.

Verizon iPad configuration speaks volumes
So the fact that they are bundling the MiFi (basically a WiFi dongle) probably means you can Skype calls. And the fact that they are moving ahead and offering an iPad with no G3 support could mean that when Verizon comes out with the G4 network there may be both an iPhone and iPad versions. G4 networked iPads would be able to handle video bandwidth better, making an upgraded iPad with a camera and FaceTime more practical.
